Which Career For Me (WCFM)

We’re excited to introduce Pearson’s newly launched product, Which Career For Me (WCFM), to South African Career Development Practitioners. If you are a professional working in the career guidance or coaching space, we invite you to join us in exploring the potential of this innovative new program!

Which Career For Me (WCFM) is a comprehensive online career guidance and planning program that helps individuals discover their unique traits and explore their ideal career paths. The program is powered by Motiva, an assessment engine that consists of a set of questionnaires measuring five key dimensions of career success: professional interests, motivations, strengths, mindset, and skills of the future.

The Which Career for Me program can be used by students choosing a career path or direction for study, as well as professionals seeking to progress in their current roles or those switching to new careers. Because students and professionals have different needs when it comes to career planning and management, the WCFM program is accessed via two options: Student and Professional.

We are now enrolling candidates in the Career Thinking with Which Career For Me accreditation training program. If you want to become one of the first certified practitioners in South Africa to incorporate the WCFM program into your professional career development offering, complete the registration form.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between the WCFM Student & WCFM Professional programs?

The WCFM Student program is aimed at high school learners (16+), tertiary students, and first-time job seekers, while the Professional program is aimed at more mature individuals with work experience. While there are many similarities between the programs, the emphasis of the Student program is on identifying career and study options, while the focus of the Professional program is on career development/management (and potential transition). Both programs feature valuable insights into motivational drivers, but the Professional program also explores the level of motivational satisfaction within an individual’s current work environment.

Is the Career Thinking with WCFM Accreditation Training registered with the HPCSA towards earning CPD points?

The Career Thinking with WCFM Accreditation training is not yet registered with the HPCSA for CPD points. It is our intention to get the training program registered for 2024. In the meantime, we are offering a special launch rate until this added benefit is in place.

What is the Cost of Accreditation Training?

The 2023 launch price of the Accreditation Training is R3500 (excluding VAT). This includes accreditation in both the WCFM Student and Professional versions (2 training programs for the price of 1). This package also includes up to 2 free credits (1x Student + 1x Professional, to the value of R1200), allowing you to coach pilot clients through the program and gain hands-on experience in making the WCFM a part of your practice.

How long does it take to complete the training?

Being mostly self-paced, it really depends on you. Theoretically you can work through all of the content in a day, yet to ensure that you really absorb everything, we recommend putting aside at least a week, covering a bit of the content every day and allowing enough time to use your free credit(s). To conclude your accreditation training you are required to attend one live online engagement. These online sessions are scheduled to take place regularly (once a month) and the upcoming dates are posted on the Career Thinking Community Events page. We recommend that you plan your schedule so you are able to work through the content (and ideally use your credit to gain practical exposure) before attending the concluding live session.

Can I complete the WCFM for Professionals version of the training on its own or do I have to first complete the Student version?

The training is set up in such a way that you first work through the WCFM for Students program, as this is the more comprehensive version of the two. If you choose to expand your accreditation to include the Professional version (at no additional cost to you), this training will go much faster, as you’ve already covered all the basic theory and only need to focus on particular aspects of coaching working professionals through the program. You are free to conclude your training after completing the WCFM for Students training program, however, this limits you to using the Student program only (designed for students and first-time job seekers).

Can I experience the WCFM program as a candidate (to gain insight into my own career) before I decide if I want to become an accredited WCFM practitioner?

While it is possible to complete the WCFM program as a candidate, you will need to do so in consultation with an accredited practitioner. We can recommend accredited WCFM coaches, on request (independent practitioners set their own WCFM coaching consulting fees). Bear in mind that if you complete the program as a candidate and decide to proceed with accreditation training as a practitioner later on, you will have to redo the WCFM program and thus duplicate much of this process. We therefore recommend that if you are interesting in using the WCFM as part of your career guidance or coaching practice, you complete the Accreditation Training and gain all the benefits that this offers. As part of the training you will gain insight into your own unique career profile and experience the career-building activities that make the WCFM program so powerful.

How does the purchasing of program credits work and how many units do I have to buy at once?

Upon accreditation, you will have an active account to pre-purchase as many WCFM program credits as you need (even single unit purchases are fine). Student and Professional credits are interchangeable and priced the same.
